Heidi Higginbotham, a senior University of Louisiana at Monroe aviation major from Church Point, has been named a recipient of the 2014 International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT) Foundation Scholarship worth $10,000.

The scholarship will be directly applied to Higginbotham’s tuition and fee costs for the upcoming academic year.

"Scholarships in aviation have always been hard to come by and limited,” said David King, program coordinator for ULM aviation. Qualifying for and receiving a scholarship of this amount is very special indeed. Persistence definitely pays off. We applied last year and were not selected, we attempted again in early May and Heidi got selected. Heidi is one of our most stellar aviation students."

He continued, "Being a full time student, studying, working/interning at Pilots for Patients, and flying all at the same time is a hard act to juggle. Heidi was also Captain of our Warhawk Flight Team last year ranking very high in the overall competition. She is a perfect fit for the intent of this scholarship, and well deserving of such an award."

According to ISTAT, the organization’s Foundation Scholarship Committee noted Higginbotham’s exemplary achievements and her great potential as a member of the aviation community.

Over the past decade, the ISTAT Foundation has given hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving students.

Along with the scholarship award, Higginbotham will receive complimentary ISTAT membership for five years following the award.

In addition to complimentary membership, scholarship recipients are given complimentary registration to ISTAT conferences.
