The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Literacy Lab will host a series of workshops,
events, and a Scholastic Book Fair, Nov. 17-21. Events range in subjects from autism
and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), to a special holiday book event
and fair.
All events are free and open to the public.
From 5-6 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 17, there will be an autism education workshop presented
by Dr. Sherlyn Powell, associate professor of education. The presentation will be
held in the College of Arts, Education, and Sciences (CAES) Literacy Lab, located
in George T. Walker Hall, Room 2-46.
From 4:30- 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov., 18, Dr. Ava Pugh, professor of education,
will present “STEM and STEAM, Crosscutting the Curriculum,” in the CAES Literacy Lab,
located in George T. Walker Hall, Room 2-46.
ULM elementary teacher education majors will present their semester projects and assignments
from 5-7 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov.19, in George T. Walker Hall, Room 2-52. Light refreshments
will be served.
From 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 20, the Holiday Book Bash in honor of the Louisiana
Baptist Children's Home will take place in George T. Walker Hall, Room 2-49. During
the event, participants may join in and read aloud a holiday themed book to the audience.
Donations of gently used or new children's or adult books, which will be donated to
the Children's home, are also welcomed. Donations should be taken to the Literacy
Lab in George T. Walker Hall, Room 2-46. Light refreshments will be served.
Throughout the entire week, the School of Education will host a Scholastic Book Fair,
located in George T. Walker Hall, Room 2-48. Book selection will range from early
childhood reading, to adult. The fair’s hours are as follows: Monday: 1-4:30 p.m.;
Tuesday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; Wednesday: Noon-4 p.m.; Thursday: Noon to 8 p.m.; and Friday
8 a.m. to noon.
