To encourage the COVID-19 vaccine, Gov. John Bel Edwards visited the University of Louisiana Monroe Tuesday, where he gave Shot for $100 gift cards to students and members of the community receiving their first dose of the vaccine.

“Nothing is more important than giving the Shot for $100 cards to the students,” said Edwards, who was pleased with the number of students at the vaccine clinic in the Student Union Building.

After meeting with students, the governor visited President Ron Berry and congratulated him on his investiture on Oct. 1.

“We are honored to host the governor and thank him for his leadership during these challenging times with COVID-19,” Berry said. “Gov. Edwards is a strong supporter of Higher Education and has provided us one of the best budgets in years.”

Michael Crenshaw, a ULM Hawkseeker and accounting major who is already vaccinated, came to meet the governor and compliment Edwards on his TikTok account.

“It’s really cool to see that level of engagement,” Crenshaw said. “The governor uses TikTok to promote vaccines. To meet him was an opportunity I could not pass up.”
