MONROE, LA – The University of Louisiana has named Wendy Bailes, Ph.D., RN, the new Dean of the College of Health Sciences, pending University of Louisiana System board approval.
Bailes served as Interim Dean since May 2023. She was previously the Director of the Kitty DeGree School of Nursing at ULM.
“Dr. Bailes has proven over the last nine months to be a strong advocate for the College of Health Sciences,” said Dr. Mark Arant, ULM Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Many people voiced their support of Dr. Bailes during the interim period and her candidacy for the dean’s position. This mutual support bodes well for the future of Health Sciences,” added Arant.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve the College of Health Sciences as a whole, and each individual program,” said Bailes. “Our college has the privilege of not only changing the lives of students, but also changing the lives of individuals and communities through the exceptional healthcare that our students and alumni provide,” she continued.
Bailes earned a B.S. in Nursing from ULM (then NLU) in 1993. She received her MSN, nursing education from the University of Phoenix in 2006 and her Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2014. Upon graduating in 1993 with her BSN, she practiced in a variety of settings, including dialysis, pediatrics, and medical-surgical nursing. She began her teaching career at ULM in 2005. Bailes has been a Registered Nurse since 1993.
Bailes’ hiring comes after a national search effort headed by ULM College of Pharmacy Dean Dr. Glenn Anderson.
In speaking of her plans for the future of the college, Bailes said “My hope and desire is for my office to be a catalyst to equip each program to accomplish their goals and dreams.”
