MONROE, LA – ULM Cheerleading, Hawkline, and Ace the Warhawk earned awards and qualified for national competitions while participating in the Universal Cheerleaders Association/Universal Dance Association (UCA/UDA) Camp from July 19-21, 2024. The camp, presented by Varsity, was held at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas.

Ace the Warhawk was awarded the All-American Award as well as the Most Improved Award. ULM Cheer received several blue ribbons for their performances and the Most Improved Award, which gained them a silver bid to Nationals in Daytona, Fla. in April 2025.

“The Warhawk Cheerleaders outdo themselves every time they attend UCA Camp at SMU,” said ULM Cheerleading Coach Sammi Spivey. “While receiving blue ribbons on each performance which places us in the top tier, we also were named the team that learned the most while they were there out of the entire camp. The work is worth it,” stated Spivey.

ULM Hawkline dancers Amelia Long and Haley Hoover won All-American honors, while the team obtained the Most Improved Award, also earning them a silver bid to Nationals.

Silver bids serve as an automatic qualifier to participate in the coveted UCA/UDA National Championship. Additionally, each team receives a $250 discount on their registration to Nationals and two free hotel rooms.

“What is unique about this year is that all three spirit groups won Most Improved, including Ace the Warhawk,” said Spirit Groups Liasion Dr. Alicia Jones. “I think this is a testament to the growth of the programs over the past few years and that we are all headed in the right direction,” added Jones.
