MONROE, LA –The ULM Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Paul W. Sylvester
Louisiana Cancer Foundation (LCF) Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship was established
by private donations and with assistance from the Louisiana Cancer Foundation to support
Sylvester’s cancer research conducted in the ULM College of Pharmacy.
Annual scholarship awards will be made to three eligible Pharm.D. students starting
their third or fourth year of training (P3 or P4) in the ULM College of Pharmacy.
Each recipient will receive one-third of the spendable earnings from the endowment.
Candidates must be in the top one-third of their class and have demonstrated an interest
in the fields of oncology and/or cancer research. Eligible students can apply for

Dr. Sylvester shared, "Establishing this endowed scholarship is a step toward investing
in the next generation of pharmacy professionals who are passionate about oncology
and cancer research. By supporting these students, we are not only investing in their
education, but also in the future of cancer research and the hope for better treatment
outcomes.”
Sylvester, an endocrinologist, joined the ULM College of Pharmacy in 2001. He is the
Associate Dean of Research and Pfizer, Inc. B.J. Robison Endowed Professor of Pharmacology. He
continues his research of tocotrienols, a rare natural form of vitamin E that has
displayed potent anti-cancer effects. More information on Dr. Sylvester’s research

a distinguished researcher as Dr. Paul Sylvester,” said James Adams, Executive Director
of LCF. “I look forward to seeing the impact this scholarship will make in the education
of future Pharm. D. graduates and, in turn, their contributions to the field of oncology
and cancer research,” he added.
About The Louisiana Cancer Foundation
The Louisiana Cancer Foundation (LCF) is a nonprofit established in 1999. Since that
time the LCF has funded 84 cancer screenings, which have included 10,131 patients.
The LCF has donated $296,688 to ULM over the years including their donations to Dr.
Sylvester’s cancer research, as well as the Teresa Marsala Memorial Nursing Fund in
the Kitty Degree School of Nursing. The LCF has also funded a $50K endowed scholarship
for ULM students who are cancer survivors or who have been impacted by cancer in their
families.

About the ULM College of Pharmacy
The pharmacy program at ULM is Louisiana’s only publicly supported comprehensive center
