Member of ULM Water Ski team wins international championship

CAPTION: Damir Filaretov, a ULM Water Ski team captain, won the Overall Championship in the International World Waterski Federation Europe and Africa Under-21 Championships in France. Filaretovwas representing his home country of Ukraine.  


MONROE, LA –  Damir Filaretov, a member of the ULM Water Ski team, won the title of Overall Champion at the International World Waterski Federation Europe and Africa Under-21 Championship in France in September 2024.  

Filaretov is a junior at ULM and currently serves as one of the captains of the water ski team. He is from Dnipro, Ukraine and was chosen by his country to represent them at the IWWF E & A Under-21 Championships. Filaretov competed against other water skiers from across the globe including skiers from Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, and Slovakia.  

Filaretov placed 2nd in Tricks, 2nd in Jump, and 7th in Slalom. His points total earned him the title of Overall Champion.  

“I am so proud of Damir,” said ULM Water Ski Coach Zane Nicholson. “He has shown great leadership on and off the water since joining our team here at ULM. We are seeing his hard work in training pay off with his results at the European Championships. I am excited to see what the future holds for Damir in the years ahead!” 

The ULM Water Ski team will be back in action in spring 2025 at the Polar Bear Classic in Conroe, Texas, hosted by Texas A&M University. The ULM Water Ski team will compete in three tournaments in the spring and four tournaments in the fall of 2025. The dates of these tournaments will be announced at a later date.
