These captivating events promise to bring evenings of incredible talent, infectious energy, and exciting arrangements of tunes audience members may know and love.

The Bayou Steel performance will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 7:30 p.m., and the ULM Percussion Ensemble concert will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. Both concerts will take place at the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall on ULM’s campus. General Admission is $5 at the door for each concert, and all are welcome to attend. ULM students will be admitted free with ID.

Members of Bayou Steel, which is the university’s only steel pan ensemble, will be playing fun pop tunes such as “I Can See Clearly Now” by Johnny Nash, “Funky Town” by Lipps, Inc. and arranged by student ensemble member Mallory Burris, an Abba Medley arranged by Jeff Moore, and more.

Members of ULMPE will be playing pieces such as “Selva Luminosa” by Francisco Perez, “Skeleton Key” by Brian Nozny, “Bread and Butter” by Andy Smith, and the highly anticipated ULM premiere of the piece “A Spiral Made of Wires” by Ivan Treviño. For this piece, the ensemble will be joined by ULM School of Visual and Performing Arts guitar professor JD Farmer on electric guitar.

“It has been a fantastic semester of growth for my students, and it has been an incredible journey preparing the Treviño with Professor Farmer,” said Dr. Kathryn Irwin, percussion professor and director of Bayou Steel and ULMPE. “It is so special when we get to share the stage with ULM faculty, and Professor Farmer is absolutely shredding. You don’t want to miss this!”
