The University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) was proud to host the 13th annual Louisiana High School Online Technology Challenge on April 3, 2019. Approximately 250 high school students participated. We thank the generous sponsorship that CenturyLink, Louisiana's leading technology corporation headquartered in Monroe, Louisiana, has provided over the years. This 100% state-wide competition takes place online across the state; it is the oldest online educational competition in Louisiana. This online technology competition encourages high school students to prepare for Louisiana's future. Every high school in Louisiana is eligible and welcome to participate. Since 2006, approximately 6,400 high school students have participated in this annual online competition with very positive evaluations. Shouldn't your high school participate?

The Louisiana High School Technology Challenge.

Registered Team Entries
Each high school requiresteam coach who registers the team. Here are the deadlines. As this state-wide competition becomes more popular, participation is strictly limited to the first 75 registered teams. Only an appointed "Tech Team Coach" can register a high school team.

Why A Technology Challenge?
This competition recognizes and acknowledges students interested in demonstrating their creative use of technology and teamwork skills. As Louisiana prepares for a brighter future, our schools need to encourage students to apply skills that will help them to productively contribute in a modern and progressive society through teamwork. The main purpose of this competition is to demonstrate how our students can use technology creatively, in a team, for productive life-long learning.
  • Winning schools will be recognized for excellence with school trophies.
  • Every student will get a T-shirt.
Eventually, we intend to share the excellent work produced during the competition to inspire even greater excellence. Over time, we hope to have "exemplars", video tutorials, technology tips, and projects online. We hope to make the learning materials available through this website.

What Is The High School Technology Challenge?
The Technology Challenge is an annual state-wide competition among high school students in Louisiana. Every high school in Louisiana can enter a single team composed of up to 15 students under the guidance of a designated Team Coach. On the morning of the competition, during regular school hours, your team meets at a reserved computer lab at your high school. You need Internet-accessible computers to complete the challenging tasks. This event is a virtual field trip, without the associated costs of travel.

A highly-qualified team of dozens of judges at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, CenturyLink, and from "LACUE" (Louisiana Association of Computer-Using Educators) will examine and evaluate the work of the teams. Results of the competition will be announced on this website on the following day.

Basic Requirements
Here are the requirements for entering a school team to enter the online competition:
1. The high school Principal designates a Team Coach.
2. The Team Coach selects a team of up to 15 students.
3. Each student will get a T-shirt. After your team registration is finalized, we cannot make changes about T-shirt sizes.

4.  Your school's computers should have software that can read and write Word, Powerpoint, and Excel files. You should be able to edit and create image files. You should be able to edit and produce mp3 audio files and edit and produce mp4 video files using any type of software. Judges will be using their own computers to evaluate the team submissions; so, whatever file your team produces should be in a common file format.
5. Your team should be ready to complete a number of challenging and creative tasks during a Wednesday morning at your school.
6. Although not required, most high schools have a pizza party for the participating team members immediately after the competition. (This is a very small portion what an actual school trip would cost!)
7. Although not required, we hope your high school has a technology club.

Mission Of The Technology Challenge
We
invite you to encourage student learning with technology by organizing a Technology Challenge team in your high school with a mission to promote enthusiastic support for active involvement of students in active learning opportunities. We want to enhance learning at high schools in Louisiana by:

  • actively recognizing and sharing excellent student work
  • celebrating outstanding student achievement
  • promoting community, school, and business partnerships that support learning with technology
  • promoting meaningful achievement and useful workplace skills
  • attracting more students, particularly females and minorities, to professional and technical careers dealing with technology
