Master of Arts in History

Program Requirements

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 from a regionally accredited university.

OR

A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.50 (based on a 4.0 scale);
AND
A minimum combined score of 283 on the Graduate Record Examination General Test (143 Verbal plus 138 Quantitative);
AND
A minimum formula score of 707.50 (GPA x GRE).


Applicants who fail to meet the above standards may be admitted on conditional status as recommended by the Graduate History Admission and Curriculum Committee in concert with the Dean of the Graduate School.

 


Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to write a thesis?
The thesis option is not required, and is unavailable for students in the online program.  Upon successful completion of graduate coursework, students who are not required to complete a thesis, must successfully pass written and oral comprehensive exams. 

Are there additional program requirements for admission?
Admitted students are required to provide a writing sample such as a book review, honors' thesis or research paper no longer than 10 pages, double-spaced excluding bibliography to the History Graduate Coordinator.

Are there graduate assistantships available?
A limited number of graduate assistantships are available. Contact us if you are interested in applying! Graduate assistantships are not available for students in the online program.
