Educational Talent Search
Educational Talent Search identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds
who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic,
career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate
from high school and continue on to complete their college education
Housed on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, TRiO Programs-Educational
Talent Search has been providing services to students in northeast Louisiana for the
past thirty years. Currently the program is funded to serve 826 students in fourteen
schools throughout three parishes.

- Assistance in completing college admission and financial aid applications
- Financial planning for college (students and parents)
- Guidance and assistance into postsecondary education
- Information on federal/state financial aid and scholarships
- Assistance in post-secondary course selection
- Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams
- Assistance in secondary course selection
- Academic tutoring
- Mentoring program
- Exposure to college campuses
- Support and assistance for families of participants
*All services are provided free of charge*
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for our program, students must be between the ages of 11 and
27 and have completed the fifth grade. Two-thirds of our participants must be students
who are low-income and potential first-generation college students and attend one
of the following target schools.
