Certification Options

Dual Certification is available for the Elementary & the Secondary programs:

  • Mild/Moderate Special Education (Grades 1–5)
  • Mild/Moderate Special Education (Grades 6–12)

Available concentration areas are offered in Grades 6-12:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • English
  • General Science
  • Mathematics
  • Social Studies

Program Structure

The M.A.T. program consists of 36–45 graduate credit hours depending on your certification pathway.
Students complete:
  • Online graduate coursework
  • Summer Institute with classroom field experiences
  • Paid year-long teaching internship
  • Faculty mentoring and ongoing professional support
Previous teaching experience may satisfy portions of the Summer Institute field experience requirement.

Admission Requirements

Applicants should have:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Regular Admission
    • Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher, or
    • GPA of 3.0 or higher on the last 60 undergraduate credit hours
  • Conditional Admission
    • Undergraduate GPA between 2.50–2.74, or
    • GPA between 2.75–2.99 on the last 60 undergraduate credit hours
