The advising process provides pre-professional level social work majors and social
work majors with opportunities for participating in personal, academic, and career
self-assessment. The advisement of social work students is an important component
of the Department of Social Work. In order to ensure that courses are taken in proper
sequence, pre-professional level social work and professional level social work majors
are required to see an advisor prior to registering for classes. Pre-registration
advising begins as soon as the class schedules are available. Specific dates assigned
for pre-registration advising in the department are announced on campus and in social
work classes during the Fall and Spring semesters. All students entering the Social
Work Program are classified as pre-professional level social work majors. These students
are advised by the designated social work faculty member to try and insure that they
are on and continue on track for meeting the requirements for admission into professional
