Frequently Asked Questions

What career path can I pursue with a certificate in healthcare advocacy?

This 15-hour curriculum will develop some of the most important competencies in the growing field of patient advocacy, as articulated by the Patient Advocate Certification Board These include familiarity with the healthcare system; knowledge of ethical and legal issues in the profession; intercultural and interpersonal communication; conflict management; and communicating empathy. The Healthcare Advocacy credential, then, provides a foundation that can lead to PACB certification. Operating either within medical institutions or as independent service providers, advocates in this field help patients and their families to cope with illness and to navigate the increasingly complex healthcare system; they represent patient interests, interfacing with hospital administrators and medical professionals as care managers.
