“It isn’t what we say or think that defines us, but what we do.” – Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility

I am currently a psychology major; however, this was not always the case.

I have always been more on the creative side; photography, design, jewelry making, etc. Originally an interior design major, I just knew that was what I wanted to pursue as a career. That all changed when I was diagnosed with Anti-NMDAR Encephalitis.

Some of the major symptoms I endured consisted of being temporarily paralyzed, having my mind revert back to a child-like state, and memory loss. The encephalitis caused an abundance of scarred brain tissue. After multiple, failed attempts at treatment, I was informed that my last resort was to try neurotherapy in Dallas, Texas.

For over a year, my mom and I went to Dallas every single week to get treatment. My parents have always told me “when you know, you just know.” Well from the very first treatment session, I knew becoming a neurotherapist was more than I could ever ask for in life.

In order to become a neurotherapist, I had to change my major to psychology. It is by far one of the best decisions I have made. As the quote says, “It isn’t what we say or think that defines us, but what we do.” My dream is to be able to help people like myself who have no other options. I want to make an impact on individual’s lives, to be known as a hero; not only to sick patients, but to myself. I will be defined as a hero. Online psychology has reassured me that returning to college was the best decision I could have made because I am now on the right path to having a career that I am passionate about.
